Something not working in Suit Call?

How to play

  1. Tap a card in your hand to lift it, then tap it again to play it — or drag it onto the pile.
  2. It must match the pile's suit or its rank. Playable cards are ringed.
  3. An eight plays on anything: choose the suit that follows it.
  4. Nothing fits? DRAW takes a card; with the stock gone the key becomes PASS.
  5. Go out to score the other hand. First to a hundred wins the match.

Tips for a better score

  • An eight is worth fifty against you at the end of a hand, so it is the most expensive card to be caught holding and the most useful one to hold until you really need it.
  • Call the suit you hold most of, not the one you just picked up. Two more cards in a suit is two more turns where you are never stuck.
  • Watch the card count above the pile. When the other hand is down to one, an eight that calls a suit they have just been drawing for is usually worth spending.
  • A two-player match banks nothing, so a friendly game cannot pad your best score. Against the machine each point of the match is worth ten, and taking the match to a hundred adds five hundred.

About Suit Call

Suit Call is the old matching card game in which eights are wild. You and one opponent get seven cards each and one card is turned up to start the pile. On your turn you play a card of the same suit or the same rank as the top card, and an eight can be played whenever you like: put one down and you call the suit that everyone must follow. With nothing that fits you draw from the stock until something does, and once the stock is empty a stuck player simply passes. Go out first and you score every card left in the other hand — an eight fifty, a court or a ten ten, an ace one, the rest their face value — and if both players get stuck the smaller hand scores the difference. Hands keep dealing until somebody reaches a hundred. Play the machine, which hoards its eights and steers the suit towards its own long cards, or pass one phone between two people: the hand is face down until the player whose turn it is taps to look.
