Something not working in Box Claim?

How to play

  1. Draw one line between two neighbouring dots on your turn.
  2. Close the fourth side of a box to claim it and draw again.
  3. Avoid drawing a third side: the machine will take that box.
  4. Win a round with more boxes; lose one and the run ends.
  5. An even split is neither: it pays 10 points a round and the run goes on.

Controls

Keyboard

  • ← → ↑ ↓ move the line cursor
  • Space or Enter draws the line
  • P pause

Touch

  • Tap between two dots, or drag from one dot to the next, to draw a line
  • Hold to see the line light up, slide to change it, let go off the board to cancel

Controller

  • D-pad or left stick to move
  • A / Cross for action, B / Circle for secondary
  • Start to pause

Tips for a better score

  • Late in a round, count the chains of boxes: when you must give something away, open the shortest chain and leave the long ones for the machine to open.
  • A won round pays 20 points for every box you own times the round number, plus 25 for each win in your streak, so every extra box counts.
  • Don't grab a whole chain by reflex: drawing the far line of its last two boxes hands them over but forces the machine to open the next, longer chain.
  • On a keyboard, the first arrow or Space press only shows the cursor; after that each arrow steps half a box, zig-zagging between lines.

About Box Claim

Box Claim is the pencil-and-paper box game, played against the machine. Take turns drawing one line between two neighbouring dots; whoever closes the fourth side of a box claims it and draws again. Own more boxes than the machine when the grid fills to win the round and score. The board grows every two rounds, all the way up to nine rows of dots, and the machine learns to hand over two boxes to keep control of a long chain. An even split pays a little and the run carries on; one lost round ends it.
