Tips for a better score
- Listen as much as you look: every note you hit is part of the tune, so a gap in the melody tells you a note was missed before your eyes do.
- A combo of 10 doubles every hit, 25 triples it and 50 makes it four times, so on a long song one clean stretch is worth more than several scrappy ones.
- If your perfects keep landing as good, open the timing setting under the song list and move it by 10 or 20 milliseconds; wireless headphones often need plus 100 or more.
- A song needs 55% accuracy to open the next one, so clearing it on Easy is enough to move on and come back for a better grade later.
About Melody Lanes
Melody Lanes is a four-lane rhythm game. Notes fall down the lanes to a line near the bottom of the screen, and you press the lane as each one lands. Every note you hit plays that note of the tune, so a clean run plays the whole melody over a soft bass and beat, and a miss leaves a gap. Timing is graded perfect or good, a run of hits builds a combo that multiplies the score, and each song ends with your accuracy and a grade from S to C. There are twelve old tunes, all long out of copyright, from folk songs to classical themes and a ragtime piece, each with Easy, Normal and Hard charts; Hard adds two-lane chords. Clearing a song opens the next, and Endless makes up new tunes as you play, faster every phrase, until misses empty the groove bar. Every lane has its own shape as well as its own colour, and a timing setting corrects for screens or headphones that lag.
