How to play

  1. Swipe up from the ball to shoot, or aim with the arrows and press Space twice.
  2. Then keep goal: pick one of six places to dive before the kick.
  3. A harder shot is quicker to the goal but less accurate.
  4. Five kicks each, then sudden death if it's level.
  5. Two players: pass the phone, and look away while the other one chooses.

Tips for a better score

  • Power is a trade. A slow shot lets the keeper reach further, and a flat-out shot can drift a long way from where you aimed. Somewhere past the middle of the meter is usually right.
  • Keeping, watch the machine's run-up: it leans toward the side it means to shoot. The gentle machine nearly always tells the truth; the sharp one lies almost half the time.
  • A keeper diving high still reaches a shot at waist height, and one diving low covers the bottom half. Middle-low guards more than you'd think against a timid kick.
  • A two-player shoot-out banks nothing. Against the machine, goals and saves pay, winning pays more, and the sharp machine pays three times the gentle one.

About Penalty Kick

Penalty Kick is a shoot-out seen from behind the spot. Swipe up from the ball to shoot: the direction picks the side, the length picks the height and the speed of the swipe is the power. Then swap and keep goal, picking one of six places to dive before the kick. A hard shot gives the keeper less time to reach it, but it strays further from your aim, so a hard shot at a corner can hit the post or go wide. Five kicks each, ending early once one side can't be caught, and sudden death if it's level. Play the machine at three levels, or pass one phone between two players, each choosing in secret.
