Something not working in Star Plots?

How to play

  1. Tap a cell to place a star, tap again for a dot (empty), and again to clear.
  2. Every row, column and plot holds one star (two on two-star boards).
  3. Stars never touch, not even diagonally.
  4. Drag across cells to dot a whole line of them at once.
  5. Check marks any wrong star or dot; Hint settles one step and says why.

Controls

Keyboard

  • ← ↑ → ↓ move
  • Space or Enter cycle star, dot, clear
  • 1 star, 2 dot, 0 clear
  • Z undo, E check, H hint
  • M next board (today, one-star, two-star), P pause

Touch

  • Tap a cell to cycle star, dot, clear
  • Hold a cell, or right-click it, to cycle backwards; drag to dot a line
  • UNDO, CHECK and HINT sit under the board

Controller

  • D-pad or left stick to move
  • A / Cross for action, B / Circle for secondary
  • Start to pause

Tips for a better score

  • Start with the smallest plots. A plot of two or three cells in a line leaves very few places for its star, and the cells around all of them can often be dotted at once.
  • When a plot sits entirely inside one row, that row's star belongs to the plot, so dot the rest of the row. Two plots inside two rows work the same way.
  • Before you place a star, look at its eight neighbours: if a star there would leave some row, column or plot with no room at all, that cell is empty.
  • Scoring: five points the first time each row, column or plot has its stars, five a cell for the solve, two a second under par, and a hundred extra for today's board. Check costs 20 and a hint 30.

About Star Plots

Star Plots is a logic puzzle on a square board cut into coloured plots, one plot for every row. Place stars so that every row, every column and every plot holds exactly one star, and no two stars touch, not even at a corner. The two-star boards ask for two in each. Mark the cells that can't hold a star with a dot and the answer closes in. Plots are told apart by the gaps between them as well as by their tints, so the board reads just as well if you cannot tell the colours apart. Every board is built in your browser and checked twice before you see it: plain reasoning must finish it without a guess, and an exact search must find exactly one answer. There is today's board, the same for everyone until midnight (one star on weekdays, two at the weekend), and two practice ladders, one-star from 5 by 5 to 10 by 10 and two-star from 8 by 8 to 10 by 10.
