Something not working in Word Frame?

How to play

  1. Drag a word from the strip onto a space of the same length.
  2. It snaps in if its letters agree with the words it crosses; otherwise it bounces back.
  3. Tap a placed word, or drag it off the grid, to put it back on the strip.
  4. Fill every space to finish. Each grid has exactly one answer.
  5. You can also tap a word, then tap the space it belongs in.

Controls

Keyboard

  • ← → ↑ ↓ choose a word on the strip
  • Space or Enter lifts it, arrows step through its spaces, Space drops
  • Z cancels or undoes, Backspace undo, H hint
  • M swap today and practice, P pause

Touch

  • Drag a word from the strip onto a space of the same length
  • Tap a word in the grid to send it back to the strip
  • UNDO, CLEAR and HINT sit under the strip

Controller

  • D-pad or left stick to move
  • A / Cross for action, B / Circle for secondary
  • Start to pause

Tips for a better score

  • Start with the lengths that only appear once on the strip: a nine-letter word with one nine-letter space has nowhere else to go.
  • Once a long word is down, its letters narrow every space that crosses it, so the short words usually follow quickly.
  • A word that fits a space is not always right there. If you run out of places, take out the last few words and try the other way round.
  • Scoring: five points the first time each word goes in, then fifteen a word and a bonus for filling the grid under par. Hints cost twenty-five; undo is free.

About Word Frame

Word Frame is a crossword with no clues. An empty grid sits in a dark frame and every word that belongs in it is printed on a paper strip underneath, sorted by length. Drag a word onto a space of the same length: it snaps in when its letters agree with every word it crosses, and bounces back when they don't. Placed words are struck through, ticked and curled away on the strip, and a clashing letter shows an orange cross, so nothing depends on telling colours apart. Grids are built in your browser and checked by an exact solver, so each one has exactly one way to fit the words. There is today's grid, the same for everyone until midnight, and endless practice that grows from a five-word warm-up with a word given to start you off to an eighteen-word board.
