- Islands never touch each other side by side.

- Check marks any rule you are breaking; Hint places one right cell and says why.

Tips for a better score
- Start with the ones: a 1 is an island on its own, so every cell beside it is sea.
- A blank cell next to two different numbers would join their islands, so it must be sea.
- Look for three sea cells around a square: the fourth has to be land, or the sea would pool.
- Scoring: five points the first time each island is walled in at its right size, five a cell for the solve, two a second under par, and a hundred extra for today's sea. Check costs 20 and a hint 30.
About Sea Shade
Sea Shade is a logic puzzle of islands and open water. Each number on the grid is an island of exactly that many cells. Shade every other cell as sea so that no two islands touch, all of the sea joins up into one body, and nowhere is there a 2 by 2 square of open sea. Tap a cell once for sea and again to dot it as land, or drag to paint a whole stretch of water at once. Sea carries a wave mark and land a dot, so the grid reads just as well if you cannot tell the colours apart. Every puzzle is made in your browser and an exact solver proves it has one answer before you see it. There is today's 8 by 8 sea, the same for everyone until midnight, and a practice ladder that grows from 5 by 5 to 10 by 10.
